I am constantly getting asked “Why don’t you shoot families, babies, seniors, (insert any session) anymore?!”…so I thought I would share a little bit on my decision to specialize in weddings and couples. Don’t get me wrong…I love those cute little button noses as much as the next person but I had some really great reasons to not include it as part of my business.
Early on in my photography career, I decided to shoot anything and everything. It was a great way for me to gain experience and the more I shot, the more I learned, and the more I fell in LOVE with photography! Two years ago, my husband and I were blessed to have our first son and my life quickly got busier and busier! I started to realize that if I wanted to give the BEST time I had to my family, myself, and my clients, I needed to start doing what I was passionate about and not just what would bring me extra cash or even extra exposure.
By my third year of shooting, I was pretty confident that I what I loved to shoot most was weddings, engagements, and people in love!! BUT…you see, I thought that the more I shot families, the more exposure I would get and that MAYBE someone would hire me to do a wedding as a result. Unfortunately, the opposite was true, the more families and babies I shot…the more requests I had to do family and baby sessions. I had to make a bold decision for my business. I’m not gonna lie, it was kind of scary…but the result has been amazing!
Last year was the first year that I officially decided to only shoot what I was passionate about. This decision has given me more quality time at home with my sons (yes, there are 2 now!), more time with my husband and it has kept me LOVING what I do. On top of that, I can offer the BEST attention that I can to each and every one of my brides!! It is one of the main reasons why I call myself a boutique photographer. I offer the few sessions that I specialize in and in return you get a photographer who is truly passionate about what they do, higher quailty, and exceptional service.
If you’re new to the buisness, I encourage you to figure out what you love to shoot most and then give it all you got! I promise… you will be more happier and your clients will see the results in the quality of service you are able to give!
So…that means… if you need a proposal, engagement, anniversary or wedding session…hit me up! I’m all yours!!
